It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan C. McGivern, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed professional, who left this world peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 79, after a life filled with passion and creativity.
Alan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Layton School of Art. For over 37 years, he dedicated his talents to Frank Mayer & Associates, where he started as a lettering artist and worked his way up to Senior Vice President of Creative Services.
Beyond his professional achievements, Alan's true passion lay in shipbuilding. He was known for his meticulous craftsmanship, handcrafting models from scratch that reflected his lifelong dedication to the art form. His exceptional skills in model building earned him recognition both nationally and internationally, as his work was featured in various publications throughout the years. His creativity extended beyond shipbuilding; he also explored various media, with artwork that adorned the walls of his home.
Alan was a devoted husband to Karen McGivern for 58 years. Together, they created a warm and loving home in Grafton, Wisconsin, where they raised their two children, Amy (Jeff) Uhlenberg and Michael (Bobbi) McGivern. Alan took immense pride in being a grandfather to Sophie and Benjamin Uhlenberg and Samuel, Mallory, and Maxwell McGivern. He was best friends with Bob & Susie Chich and Dick Hornblad.
His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A Private Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends.
