It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Elmer F. "Butch" Paegelow, who departed this life on August 19, 2025, at the age of 76. Butch was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, respected veteran, and a beloved member of the community.
Born on May 18, 1949, in Milwaukee, Butch was the son of Elmer C. Paegelow and Florence (nee Hall). He graduated from Homestead High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1975, exemplifying the values of duty and integrity throughout his service.
Butch's love story began with his marriage to Nola on September 6, 1969, at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories that will endure through their shared legacy.
For 49 years, Butch dedicated himself to Gierach's Auto Service in Mequon, earning the respect and friendship of his colleagues and customers alike. An active member of the Rose Harms American Legion Post #355, he contributed to his community and supported fellow veterans, reflecting his deep commitment to service. One of Butch’s greatest highlights was going on the Honor Flight in 2023, where he was escorted by his son, Tim. He enjoyed spending time at the Camp American Legion and spending countless hours volunteering his time at the post. Butch also loved spending time with his family in the Wisconsin Northwoods.
A Memorial Gathering will be held in Butch’s honor on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Rose Harms American Legion Post #355 (1540 13th Ave.), Grafton, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This gathering will be followed by a service featuring military honors, celebrating Butch's life and legacy at 4:00 PM.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Nola Paegelow, who will carry his memory in her heart. He is further survived by his children, Nikki (John) Jozwowski, Stacy (Lee) Baldwin, and Tim (Stef Emmer) Paegelow, grandchildren: Katie, Erin (Fiancé Nolan Olson), Amanda (Fiancé Cole Large) Jozwowski, and Emily and Allison Suber, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Doug (Ruth) Paegelow, and nephew, Stephen Paegelow.
He will be remembered not only for his service to his country and community but also as a kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of those around him.
His spirit will live on in the many hearts he has inspired. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Rose Harms American Legion Post or Camp American Legion in his memory.
Rest in peace, Butch. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will forever shine brightly in our lives.
