It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald A. “Jerry” Chromy, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Jerry, who left us peacefully at the age of 84 after a natural transition, was born in Milwaukee, WI, and spent his life in the vibrant community of Cedarburg and Port Washington, where he cultivated lasting relationships and made indelible memories.
Jerry was the proud owner/operator of Chromy Cartage Inc. He started as a laborer in his early years, was a member of Local 113, embodying a strong work ethic and a dedication to hard labor. He found great pride in his trucking company, where he fostered camaraderie with other members of the trade. Outside of work, Jerry had a zest for life that was infectious.
He was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he found comfort and connection. His spirit was vibrant, always reflected in his laughter, great sense of humor, and that unmistakable grin that warmed hearts. He loved spending time with his beloved family, sharing drinks and laughter around the table while enjoying his favorite snacks, like Chex Mix and popcorn.
Jerry was passionate about bowling, boating, hunting, and racing motorcycles back in the day. He had an affinity for loud engines and shiny things that symbolized his love for adventure. He was a proud member of the Saukville Gun Club, where he forged friendships that enriched his life.
He will be dearly remembered as the best husband, a doting father, and an adoring grandfather who celebrated every moment with pride. His love extended to his daughters-in-law, who he welcomed into the family with open arms.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy Chromy; his four treasured sons, Jerry (Judy) Chromy Jr., Chris (Jenny) Chromy, Jason (Jill) Chromy, Andy (Jenny) Chromy, grandchildren: Justin (Lauren), Colin, Ellie, Peter, A.J., Lilly, Eli, and Mila Chromy; mother-in-law, Doris Tetzlaff, and brother, George (Ann) Chromy. Further survived by many other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Chromy, and father-in-law, Herman Tetzlaff.
A memorial service to honor Jerry’s remarkable life will take place on Friday, July 17, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, beginning at 6:00 PM. Prior to the service, family and friends are invited to gather for visitation starting at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Grafton, or the charity of your choice, are appreciated.
As we reflect on the vivid tapestry of Jerry’s life, we will carry forward his laughter, zest for life, and unwavering love for his family. He will live on forever in the heart of everyone who knew him, and we will celebrate the legacy of this extraordinary man who flew by the seat of his pants and embraced life to the fullest.
