Lawrence "Larry" Temo

Listen to Obituary

Lawrence C. Temo (1932-2026), beloved candy maker, uncle, father, husband, grandfather, and godfather, died April 10, 2026, at 93 years of age. He is survived by his sister, Connie Kanaredes (Temo), daughters, Marija Temo, Kristen Temo and her husband, Edward King, and grandsons, Alexander and Markos King. Preceded in death by his wife, Joan Temo (Lontchar), brother, James C. Temo, and parents Areti Temo (Moungris) and Christ Temo.

Lawrence graduated with The Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) from the University of Akron and went into the quarter master core of the Army where he became a 2nd lieutenant. He worked for nine colonels and left the service as a 1st lieutenant to help his father with the family candy business. Larry was on the University of Akron soccer team, The Akron Zips, and also coached the soccer team for 20 years.

He was a loyal and loving family man, and was present at every event, performance, play, sports activity of his children, nieces, and grand nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. He loved to go to family events and celebrations and take his family and extended family out to dinner. People were always welcome to Larry and Joan’s home as they loved visits and hosting annual flamenco parties. As many as 20-50 people would fill the house over a weekend in sharing music, dance, food, and creating lifelong friendships and memories. Larry was an active Greek and Serbian church member. In the summertime, he stayed in good physical shape, swimming daily and tending to his yard.

He continued working up until 88 years of age at Temo’s Candy, where his family business created a lasting memory of quality, mouthwatering, handmade chocolates and innovative holiday designs of valentine hearts, Christmas trees, and easter eggs and baskets. His last few years were living in Milwaukee with his cats, Bailey and Poppy, and enjoying his daughters, son- in- law and grandchildren.
