Marlene Louise Markworth

Marlene Louise Markworth, 83, of Grafton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17. A woman who loved her family, her church, and her work, Marlene will always be remembered for her desire to make a difference.

Born on August 8, 1941, in Milwaukee, Marlene grew up the daughter of Louis and Anna (Hahn) Hermann and the sister of Werner, Walter, and Carol. When she wasn’t absorbed in her schoolwork or reading a book for fun, Marlene had a vivid imagination, liked to solve problems and puzzles, and looked forward to her time at the lake with cousins.

A true believer in the value of education, Marlene excelled as both a life-long student and teacher. She worked first as an elementary school teacher and later went back to school to become a school psychologist. She even learned sign language to teach a student joining her preschool class.

An enthusiastic member of the Lutheran church, Marlene was happiest when serving Jesus through her involvement in the churches wherever she lived. It brought her so much joy to embroider paraments and stoles, create a church library, play the piano, teach Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes, attend and lead Bible studies, sing hymns in harmony, and direct the choir.

Marlene is survived by her children, Jonathan (Pam) Markworth, Joy (Mike) Yurk, and Ruth Markworth; her grandchildren Nicholas Markworth, Lindsay (Matt) Hendricks, Gabriel Fisch, Caleb Yurk, Aaron Yurk, and Micah Yurk; her former husband Richard Markworth; her sister Carol (Tom) Wiedenhoeft; and her dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would also like to thank the care provided to Mom by the staff of Village Pointe Commons and Legacy Hospice.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the Memorial Service to celebrate Marlene’s life and faith.
