Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth A. Engeldinger, who left this world peacefully on August 21, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on November 22, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ruth lived a life filled with warmth, generosity, and love. She resided in Saukville, WI, where she left an indelible mark on her family, friends, and community.

Ruth was a devoted owner/operator of the general store in the mill in Cedarburg, which was a beloved establishment that was particularly famous for her coveted popcorn and jellybeans, which brought joy to many. Together with her daughter, Ruth created a welcoming atmosphere that felt like home, and she was known for her remarkable ability to connect with everyone who walked through her doors. Her spirit and kindness shone through in every interaction, and she built lasting relationships in her community that will carry on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A nurturing soul, Ruth was an avid gardener who took great pride in her vibrant flowers and lush garden, which mirrored her nurturing nature. She also enjoyed antiquing and sewing, but her true love was baking the most delicious meals for her family and friends.

She treasured family above all else, and her legacy will live on through her granddaughter, Carolyn (Brad) Sabady, and great-grandchildren, Emma Ruth and Henry Steven Sabady. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Sr., her daughter, Karen, her son, Gordon Jr., and her parents Henry and Mary Voss. She is further survived by dear neighbors and friends, Linnea Denow, Matt (Chris) Faldet, Trevor Faldet, Judy Szczygiel, Barb Orlaska, Matt Dickmann, John Schmit, Tracy Schmit, and Martha Eskra who felt privileged to have shared their lives with her.

Ruth will be laid to rest, between her children, at Zur Ruhe Cemetery, in Cedarburg, where she will have a private Christian Committal Service. She will be forever surrounded by the love she so generously gave to others.
